Detection Principle

The reflective-type optical sensor contains an IR emitter that sends out IR light at 940nm and collects the reflected light in the phototransistor. If an object is close to the optical sensor, the collector current of the phototransistor increases, which can be used to detect if an object is in the vicinity.
