Amulet Technologies Resistive and Capacitive GEMevaluation-Kits™ feature all the hardware required to design a graphically rich, interactive, and user-friendly color GUI. Implementing the GEMstudio™ powerful GUI design software allows the rapid creation of elaborate interfaces that are excellent for prototyping and fully deployable in final production. Designs can be seamlessly transferred to GEMmodules™ or customized Amulet-based solutions, facilitating the entire development-to-production process.
The Amulet GEMmodules are a comprehensive HMI system integrating a powerful application processor and a graphical OS onto a touch-screen TFT display. Created to simplify the development of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for embedded systems, the devices provide a compact, ready-to-use solution for manufacturers and developers seeking to implement touch-enabled displays without requiring extensive hardware or software modifications.
The module is suited for various applications, including industrial control systems, medical devices, and consumer electronics, where intuitive human-machine interaction is essential. These modules incorporate a WVGA TFT LCD that produces clear, high-contrast visuals with wide viewing angles, enhanced by a white LED backlight. The built-in application processor offers a hardware floating-point unit, 24-bit color with alpha blending, a USB device interface, and multiple serial interfaces for connecting to a host microcontroller.
The device has 64Mb on-board memory of SDR SDRAM to support smooth high-resolution graphics and 64Mb of serial data flash for secure and reliable code storage. Built-in electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection benefits increase system reliability in electrically noisy environments.
A key feature of the GEMmodule is its use of Amulet’s proprietary Graphical Operating System, which manages all GUI processing, including handling user events, unassisted by a host microcontroller. This feature allows developers to enhance existing systems, including those using 8-bit microcontrollers, without requiring significant architectural changes.
Development for the Amulet GEMmodule is streamlined through compatibility with Amulet’s GEMstudio, a versatile GUI development environment developed to accelerate time to market. GEMstudio supplies three flexible development processes, including a complete WYSIWYG drag-and-drop interface that requires no coding. Applications can be created, tested, and deployed significantly faster. Projects created with GEMstudio can be effortlessly migrated to a different size GEMmodule or any other Amulet GEMmodule with minimal effort.
